Do you know your purpose?

Be Purposeful

I am a people watcher. I can amuse myself all day, imagining and writing people’s life stories as they walk past me. It’s their purpose for what they are doing that intrigues me, along with their attitude, looks, behavior, and so much more.

I read lips too. Being deaf from the age of four, I learned creative ways to communicate and reading people’s body language just became a natural source of communication. Often, when people walk past, I can catch a glimpse of what topic they are chatting about. It usually makes for a great distraction as I try to while the time away.

Purposeful or Not?

Being the observer of people that I am, I have noticed they are either purposeful about their lives or they are not. You’ve seen them too. When I first met my military officer husband he would say, “Walk into a room with purpose, even if you aren’t sure if you know what you are doing, look like you do.” I think that must have been some military training. He strides into a room like a man who knows where he is going, even if he doesn’t.

That got me thinking about other areas of our lives. What does God want? Does God have a plan? Where would God want us to walk with purpose even when we are unsure of the destination or reason?

I found Jeremiah 29:11. Not that it was lost – I just hadn’t read it yet. It’s the verse that I use to remind myself of who God is in my life. My life verse.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord plans for welfare (or peace) and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 English Standard Version

 God has a plan.

God does have a plan and a purpose for me and you. Knowing God reassured me He had everything under control. I don’t have to worry. No fretting for this old girl. No worry lines etched on this face.

He’s got you too.

I’m a person who wants to know that I have a purpose. Living with purpose is part of God’s plan because our God is not a god of chaos. He is orderly and no detail escapes Him. Therefore, I choose to purposefully love God, love His people, seek God first in all things, love my neighbor, and share Christ with all that I can.

Do what you need to do on this side of Heaven.

Recently, a friend told me.” I choose to go to Heaven empty.” I want that too. Doing all the things here on earth that God asked me to do even the things that make me uncomfortable at times is my goal. For those are the times I grow the most in my faith.

I challenge you today to look at your life. What are you doing purposefully? Where do you need to set goals? Don’t be afraid to set some big hairy huge outrageous goals – Dream Big Pray Big. You can’t out Pray God or out ask Him. What do you have to lose?

Now, write them down. Put them in a safe place or give them to someone who will hold you accountable. It is good to have short, medium, and long-term goals. You can do it. God is for you.

You may not be an observer, but you can be purposeful. Live with Purpose.
